The Retreat Animal Sanctuary in Kent practises a vegan ethic, operating a strict no-kill policy. Residents include ex-race horses, sheep rescued from the live exports trade, cows saved from slaughter, injured birds, ferrets, turkeys and worn-out ex-laying hens.
On May 27, the sanctuary is opening up to the public from 12.30pm for a special open day. Visitors will be able to greet and feed the animals, visit market stalls, take a guided tour and visit the Sanctuary’s vegan cafe for delicious hot/cold food and cakes.
